ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency working to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled. In Eswatini, UNFPA is currently implementing the Government of Eswatini – UNFPA 7th Country Program (2021-2025) whose vision is the reduction of preventable institutional maternal mortality by 50% by the year 2025. This programme is guided by the (International Conference on Population Development (ICPD) Programme of Action (PoA), Agenda 2030, the UNFPA Strategic Plan 2022-2025, as well as the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF 2021-2025). Working with Government, civil society organisations, UN Agencies and other development partners, UNFPA support interventions on maternal health, adolescents and youth, gender equality and women empowerment as well as population and data. To create awareness on the work done and to get people in Eswatini talk about and the value of UNFPA towards saving and transforming the lives of women and girls every day in Eswatini, the Country office seeks to recruit an intern to support communication initiatives.
SUMMARY
This assignment is for supporting the UNFPA Eswatini’s communications department to create and publish content, brainstorm ideas, and develop newsletters and other publications. The successful candidate will also support innovations on digital media engagement, monitoring media coverage and planning events.
SUPERVISION
The Intern will work in close collaboration with the Communications Associate and under the guidance and supervision of the Head of Office.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The intern will have the following duties and responsibilities:
- Support content generation for UNFPA Eswatini
- Documentation human interest stories to capture the impact of UNFPA Eswatini’s work in the country.
- Development of various internal communication and visibility materials for UNFPA Eswatini
- Support generation of content covering UNFPA UNCG initiatives
- Support digital innovations for improved online visibility of UNFPA Eswatini
- Assist in organizing public engagement activities on the digital media platforms.
- Contribute to generation of fresh digital content for social media platforms.
- Audio, Video clips and animated clips production
- Support Media monitoring initiative for tracking brand visibility
- Scanning traditional and social media platforms for stories related to UNFPA mandate
- Tracking publications for coverage of UNFPA’s activities
- Performs any other duties assigned by the supervisor and the Head of Office
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher);
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in (Communications, Multimedia, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations) such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
- Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;
- Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.
- Have a good understanding of social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and others.
Experience
- Previous experience in creating quality communications products
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to timely understand the Organization’s structure and portfolios
- Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds.
Skills
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, desired.
- Knowledge of desktop publishing softwares: Canva, CorelDraw and Adobe, desired.
- Proficiency in audio, video, animations production, an added advantage.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Proficient knowledge of English (spoken and written).
DURATION
The internship is on rotation basis for a duration period of up to 6 months.
Financial Aspects
Interns do not receive a salary or any other form of remuneration from UNFPA. The costs associated with an intern's participation in the programme must be assumed either by the nominating institution, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students, or by the students themselves, who will have to meet living expenses as well as make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and other requirements. However, they receive a stipend to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, if not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation, or scholarship programme. The amount of the stipend varies according to the duty station. In addition, applicants must have medical insurance for the duration of the internship. Proof of insurance will need to be submitted before the internship begins. UNFPA does not provide medical insurance for interns.
